Shameless Prayer
I am shameless when it comes to asking for prayers for health.
“Say a ‘Hail Mary’—or the Jewish
equivalent of it,” I told Sharon. “We’ve been friends for
almost 20 years.” God surely would factor this in, I thought. She recited
a Torah prayer for healing on my behalf.
For friends of a scientific bent, I had to take a
different tack. I emailed Byron, “Send good vibes.” Who knows if
he believes in God. But he believes in waves, particles and the speed of light. Vibes
must make sense to him. (“Good vibes” and “white light,” work
well for folks who fall into the “spiritual not religious” category
too.) more

Mexican Refugee Film
It was an unlikely coalition that gathered at St.
Michael and All Angels Episcopal Church in Albuquerque to see the film, Mexican
Refugee. Activists involved in immigrant rights, gay rights and domestic
violence issues viewed the disturbing documentary, which looks at some of
the reasons large numbers of Mexicans seek political asylum in Canada.
