Readings by Demetria Martinez

For over 25 years, I have been reading and discussing my work at universities and other venues around the country including Stanford University, University of California at Los Angeles, Massachusetts Institute of Technology and Parsons, the New School for Design in New York. Sponsoring departments have included Latino studies, border studies, creative writing, and women's studies.

I've also given presentations at the American History Museum (Smithsonian Institution), high schools, churches, political events and retreats. I've read at conferences in El Salvador, Spain, Nicaragua and Mexico. My readings are generally followed by a lively discussion from the audience. I have found that audiences are especially curious about the creative process and about writing as resistance to injustice.

"Demetria Martinez is one of those rare poetic voices in which history, experience and talent combine to produce the richness of something new. When she gives a reading, audiences are mesmerized.
